Our Methods
We have combined the expertise of leading scientists, family doctors, and an experienced production team to ensure that our material excels not only in accuracy but also in its capacity to captivate and hold the attention of our audience.
Our material is on DVD and is well signposted so that viewers can choose the aspect that interests them most. Some will want to know more about the basic science, others about methods of treatment, and they will be able to pick and choose.
Documentary: A key element to our first documentary on high blood pressure is to use clips of a stage presentation given by Professor Neil Poulter, Professor Peter Sever, and Dr Henry White. Backed up by carefully prepared slides and animated film, they tackle the heavy science using all the arts of visual media including a stylised stage consultation with an imaginary patient and a demonstration of heart disease risk. In between we cut in visually pleasing relevant footage of, say Africa (where high blood pressure is rare), and interviews with patients. These inserts build the message and also add colour to the production.
The Drama: The hypertension DVD also has a short drama featuring Bruce Byron from the Bill, this explores what it is like to be told you have high blood pressure, how people tend to react, and how you can adapt to it and be much healthier than they were before.
The Doctor’s Cut: For nurses, doctors, and those curious to know more we have a 30 minute section which explains the Guidelines for treating high blood pressure.
Special Groups: a section which looks at the special needs of different age and ethnic groups.
This website: contains text material and special articles to enable viewers to build on their understanding of the subject after watching the DVD.
